The golf course at the former Winding Hollow Country Club in New Albany is back in play now that Tartan Golf and Management Co. LLC has taken over its operation.

Now known as Tartan East Golf Club, the course welcomed its first players June 29, said Tartan Golf President Steve Renaker. It's being operated as a public course, with greens fees of $60 on weekdays and $75 on weekends.

A private country club owned by its members, Winding Hollow closed this year after financial problems sent it into receivership. The club was purchased in May by the New Albany Co. and Georgetown Co., which then turned to Tartan Golf to reopen and manage the course and clubhouse.

Tartan owns and operates the private Tartan Fields Golf Club in Dublin as well as the public Golf Club of Dublin and the new Corazon Club and Spa, also in Dublin. Tartan manages five other golf clubs in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Indiana.

Renaker said it took a few weeks to get the Tartan East course into playing shape after the firm signed the deal with the owners. The grass had been mowed a few times while the course was in receivership, he said, but that was about it for maintenance.

Renaker thinks the challenging course design, by noted golf architect Arthur Hills, will offer a fresh test for golfers who couldn't get on the course when it was private.

Tartan East will serve pub-type food to golfers and open its clubhouse for banquets, he said.
